Mr. Chris Tracy
Project Manager
Boston Redevelopment Authority
One City Hall, 9th Floor
Boston, MA 02201

Dear Mr. Tracy:

Parkway Youth Hockey’s (PYH) Board of Directors supports Roxbury Latin’s desire to construct a new ice skating rink on their campus.

The Parkway area is approaching its 50th year of maintaining an organized youth hockey program and, during that entire time span, has operated out of the area’s only ice skating facility located at 1275 VFW Parkway, West Roxbury. There are currently over 600 youths enrolled in PYH and the addition of another local ice venue would benefit our program in several ways. Roxbury Latin has indicated to Parkway Youth Hockey that weekend ice time would be made available – at a steeply discounted rate – which would enable the program to keep member family costs at an affordable rate. In addition, available winter ice time in the immediate area is severely limited and the hours made available by Roxbury Latin would allow our program to expand and encourage more local youths to participate in the sport of ice hockey.

In addition, it is our understanding that Roxbury Latin will make their ice facility available to another local school, Catholic Memorial, in an effort to help support CM's hockey program.

Due to the direct benefits to our program, local youths and the community, the Parkway Youth Hockey Board of Directors kindly requests that the Boston Redevelopment Authority looks favorably upon Roxbury Latin’s efforts to construct a new ice skating facility at their school.

Sincerely,

Parkway Youth Hockey Board of Directors

2015-16 Travel Team Fees

At a recent meeting, the PYH Board of Directors reviewed travel for the upcoming season.  The Board approved the following tuition schedule for our various travel teams which participate in the Middlesex-Yankee Conference, Valley League and Town Line (Mite) for the 2015-2016 season.  Fees and Information for our House (non-travel) programs (Learn to Skate, Instructional and Mite House) will be announced in a separate email.

For the 2015-2016 season we are excited to announce that our girls program is switching league affiliation and will participate in the Middlesex-Yankee Conference.  Also, due to the increasing interest in girls hockey, we will be fielding two U-10 teams in addition to our U12, U14 and U16/19 teams.

We are also adding a Mite travel team to those Parkway teams participating in the Valley Hockey League.  This team is separate from our Town-Line program and utilizes a combination of cross-ice and full ice games over a 25 week season.

Travel team fees are based on several factors including costs for 30-35 regular season games and playoffs depending on league affiliation (12-15 games for half-season teams; 25 for Mite travel), practice sessions, and operating costs.  Fees are also determined by the number of players at each level, league registration, ice costs, and prompt payment of fees by families.  While Parkway has been presented with increased operating costs for the upcoming season for ice and league games, we have attempted to subsidize the increases as best we can.

Also, included in this year's travel fees are the costs for new uniforms.  Each player will receive a home and away travel jersey which they will use for two seasons and will belong to the player and not PYH.  Replacement jerseys will need to be purchased should they be lost or destroyed.

All travel team games are scheduled to start right after Labor Day.  Coaches will be reaching out to players regarding practices which will begin during the last two weeks of August.

Middlesex-Yankee Conference:

Girls U10 / U12 / U14 - $1,250

Girls U16/18 - $650

Goaltenders (with own equipment)- $400

Fees for Girls U10, 12, & 14 teams will be due in installments by August 14, 2015, October 2, 2015 and January 15, 2016.  The balance of payments for Girls U-19 will be due by September 1, 2014 since the season concludes in November.  $250 of the $300 try out fee previously paid, or other amounts paid at the time of try outs will be deducted from the above totals when they are billed.

Valley Hockey League:

Midgets (Half Season) - $600

Squirt / PeeWee / Bantam - $1,300

Mites - $900

Goaltenders (with own equipment) - $400

The Valley League requires all game fees to be paid by participating leagues by December 1.  As a result the fees for Squirt, Pee Wee, & Bantam players will be due and must be paid in three installments by August 14, 2015, October 2, 2015 and then January 15, 2016.  The balance of payments for 1/2 season Midgets will be due and must be paid by September 1, 2015 since the season concludes in November.  Please remember that $250 of the $300 try out fee previously paid, or other amounts paid at the time of try outs will be deducted from the above totals when they are billed.

Town Line League (Travel Mites) :

Registration for the Mite Travel Teams is available again for those that missed it the first time.  If you have previously registered you need not register again.  Registration will remain open through August 2015.  The registration fee is $300.  The full costs for the 2015-2016 will be finalized at a later date and any remaining balance will be due in the fall.
